James Drew "JD" Miller, Sr.
October 12, 1940 - August 26, 2016
JD was a beloved father, grandfather and husband. He was born in Cornwall, New York and raised in Riverside, California. JD lived in Dallas for 30 years before moving to Grand Junction, Colorado (his dream).
JD lived a very full life. He was a National Merit Scholar; served in the Army’s 101st Airborne Division and, along with the rest of his Airborne comrades, provided security detail during the desegregation of Ole’ Miss; and served as President of the Sales and Marketing Executives in Dallas. He loved his family, photography, dogs, the outdoors, travel, and attending the Colorado Mesa University’s basketball games, other athletic events, and theater arts performances with his wife, Donna. He was an active volunteer serving on the boards of Habitat for Humanity, Marillac Clinic, and other organizations. JD was a Certified Financial Planner with his own business, and he considered all of his clients to be treasured friends as well.
JD ran numerous marathons and ultra marathons, including the Western States 100 Mile foot race. He would do whatever he set his mind to do. JD was an avid reader and a scholar of World War II history. We will miss his laugh, his sense of humor, his loyalty, his love for family, his high integrity, and his drive for accomplishment.
JD leaves behind his wife, Donna, of 25 years, and children,
JD Miller, Jr., John Miller, Julie James, and Jaynie Degnan;
nine grandchildren, one deceased granddaughter, and one greatgrandson, as well as many other family members and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at Callahan-Edfast
Mortuary in Grand Junction, Colorado on Saturday, October 8th at 1:00 p.m, with an open house at the Miller home from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
