Alix Duran, World War II veteran, dies at 84
MONTROSE – Alix Duran, a former Vail Valley resident, died Friday evening at the San Juan Living Center in Montrose 11 days after celebrating his 84th birthday.Duran, the son of Juan R. and Porfiria (Trujillo) Duran, was born on Oct. 11, 1920, in Capuline, Colo.A veteran of World War II, Duran served four years with the U.S. Army and four years with the U.S. Navy.He married Maria M. Rivera on Nov. 19, 1951, in South Fork, Colo. They were married for 53 years.Duran enjoyed fishing, traveling and spending time with his family, friends and family members said. He also was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.Duran is survived by his wife, Maria; son Daniel and wife Julie of Chico, Calif.; grandchildren Denise, Christopher, Danielle, Angie and Simone; great-grandchildren Enrique and Mia; sisters Rosie Pollack of Monte Vista, Virginia and husband Ginto Rivera of Fruita, and Margie Duran, of Monte Vista; and numerous nieces and nephews.Duran was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Angie Trujillo.A funeral mass will be held today at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rite of committal will follow the mass in the Valley Lawns Cemetery, south of Montrose.Vail Daily, Vail, Colorado
