Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 14, for Melvin E. Eaton who passed away Monday, May 11 at the Heritage Park Nursing Home in Carbondale. He was 83. A longtime resident of Eagle, Mr. Eaton was born in North Platte, NE on Nov. 22, 1908 to William and Nettie Eaton. In the spring of 1915, his family homesteaded the Beaver Creek area. Most of the family has resided in the Eagle Valley ever since.
Mr. Eaton held numerous occupations during his lifetime. The last position he held was Supervisor of Transportation and buildings and Grounds for the Eagle County School District. A former fire chief in Eagle, he served on the volunteer fire department for a number of years. Mr. Eaton also served on the town board and was the Eagle Town Clerk.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Eaton of Eagle; daughter and son-in-law Sandy and Bob Childers of Steamboat Springs; brother Dennie of Eagle; sister-in-law Violet Eaton of California; three grandchildren and spouses of Steamboat Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial will follow at the Sunset View Cemetery in Eagle. Farnum-Holt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
