Charles Clifford
Stanton
July 19, 1925 - July 17, 2016
Charles Clifford Stanton, age
90, passed into his new life on
Sunday, July 17, 2016,
following a long illness and
sudden decline. He was just
two days short of his 91st
birthday.
Born July 19, 1925, in Grand
Junction, Colorado, he was
the son of Charles B. Stanton and Helena Fern Stanton who
resided in Collbran, Colorado. After graduating in a class of 13
from Plateau Valley High School in 1943, he quickly enlisted in
the US Navy and served as a Gunner’s Mate Third Class aboard
the USS Whiteside during World War II.
Following the war, he married Amy Claire Turmon July 21,
1946, and remained married to her for 25 years. Later he
married Floy Nigel Ramsey whom he divorced in 1994.
After the war, he worked as a lumber jack, school bus driver,
farm hand, delivery truck driver and rancher. When he retired
from ranching, he devoted his time to his outdoor hobbies of
hunting, fishing, searching for Native American artifacts, fossils
and other “interesting” rocks. For many years he was an avid
square dancer and gained notoriety as a caller in the region of
Redding, California.
Besides being greatly loved by his family, he was also loved by
his caregivers at the assisted living facility where he lived for
over 12 years because he was feisty and kept things interesting
for them.
Charles was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Stanton;
two sisters, Irene Geisaman, and Juanita Stanton, and a
granddaughter, Tamara Anne Stanton.
Charles is survived by a brother, Wardell (Vivian) Stanton of
Pennsylvania; son, Charles H. (Jan) Stanton of Tennessee;
daughter, Karen (Bob) Brownell of Utah; five grandchildren and
13 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Saturday, July 30, 2016, at 2:00
p.m. at the Residence of Grand Mesa located at 565 28 ¼ Road,
Grand Junction, CO
