W.D. "Whitey" Ellard died January 6 at his Gypsum home. He was 75. Whitey was born Dec. 9, 1918 in Ladonia, TX, the son of Willis and Willie (Herrington) Ellard. He was raised and educated in TX and was the owner and operator of a restaurant there for several years. He later served in the US Marine Corps during World War II. He moved to St. Paul, MN in 1961 where he continued in the restaurant business. He then moved to Gypsum in 1983. Whitey loved hunting and fishing. he hunted throughout Colorado with his many friends and fished in MN and Canada. he was the last of eleven children. He had a twin brother nicknamed "Blackie". Survivors include his wife, Joanna; daughter and son-in-law Judy and Milam Johnson of Austin, TX; grandchildren Kimberly Bridges, Amy Johnson and Jennifer Johnson, all of Austin; and also the Baker children and grand children.
