Memorial services planned for Erwin Erb

A memorial service for Erwin Erb, who passed away in his Vail home Wednesday, will be held at 11 a.m. at the Vail Interfaith chapel annex.

Erb, 80, died of natural causes after a long battle with emphysema.

Erb was born Jan 15, 1920, in Germany. He fought in World War II on the Russian front. He met his wife, Maria, in New York and the two moved to Vail in 1968.

"We loved the skiing and the mountains," Maria said during a telephone interview.

The couple owned the Fountain Cafe for 17 years, a restaurant which was near where the Children's Fountain is now, Maria said.

Erb is survived by his wife; his son, Manford; a sister-in-law and his family and his "favorite" dog, Heidi.

The family asks the people donate to the charity or church of their choice in lieu of sending flowers.

Erwin Erb of Vail passed away quietly at home Wednesday. He was 80.

Erb is survived by his wife, Marie, and his son, Manfred, who resides in Connecticut. He is also survived by sisters-inlaw and their families by a brother-in-law and his family, and by his dog, Heidi.

Erb was born in Germany on January 15, 1920. He was a World War II veteran. He moved to New York in 1950 and then to Vail in 1968 because he loved the mountains and to ski.

Erb and his wife owned teh Fountain Cafe in Vail for 17 years. A memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Vail Interfaith Chapel Annex. A wake will follow at Pepi's.
