Josie L. Eaklor
February 19, 1924 - July 20, 2016
Josie L. Eaklor, 92, passed
away peacefully July 20,
2016.
Josie was born February 19,
1924, the last of nine children,
to Henry B. and Ida
Dalrymple Willoughby, in
Shamrock, Texas. She grew
up on a farm picking cotton at
an early age, and survived the
Dust Bowl as a child. She
graduated from Samnorwood High School in 1942, and
Plainview Business College the next year, soon moving to
Colorado with her parents, first landing in Fruita. In 1948 she
wed A. Warren Eaklor in Denver, and they were married until
his death in 2002.
Josie was a caring wife and mother, and meticulous worker in
her various clerical and bookkeeping positions, from an auto
parts store to the Pathology Lab at St. Mary’s Hospital. She
bowled for decades for Sand’s Drugs. Besides her family, she
loved music, cats and, until the last few months, never missed a
Rockies game. She jumped at any chance to play the slots and
traveling through Nevada with her was fun, but slow. More than
anything, she loved a good joke. Finding humor in the most
trying circumstances, her laugh was infectious and welcome.
She is survived by son, Steven Eaklor, of Chicago, IL, and
daughter, Vicki Eaklor, of Alfred Station, NY. She will be buried
privately at Memorial Gardens on July 26, 2016.
Contributions to HopeWest Hospice would be welcome in lieu
of flowers.
