Former Eagle resident Harold Fessler died Saturday morning, April 5 in Franklin, Tenn. of natural causes. He as 82. Born Nov. 18, 1925 in Kansas City, Kan. to Harvey and Hazel Fessler, he was the second youngest of 8 children. Harold served in World War II with the US Merchant Marines in the South Pacific. After the service, he married Frances McCullay and along with her son, Bob Terry, moved to Fort Lupton. He purchased a small farm and worked construction while living there. Even though Harold had children of his own, he was instrumental in raising four boys, all of whom he considered his sons, Bob Terry; and 3 nephews, Ron and Roy Zatarain and Phillip Donovan. In 1965 he moved to Eagle County after years of hunting and fishing in the area. Harold purchased State Bridge Lodge and ran it for a few years. He also operated the Eagle Bar and Cafe and the Diamond J Bar. He resided at a small ranch up Bruce Creek. After Frances and Harold divorced, he married Beverly Osborne in 1973. At this time he moved into Eagle and gained an extended family (Becky, Mona, Rhonda, and Scott Covalt along with Rhonda's children, Chris, Paul, and Cassi). He lived in Eagle until 1999 when he moved to Phillipsburg, Kan. Harold is survived by one brother, Larry Fessler (Leona) of Emporia, Kan., one sister, Mabel Gibbs of Kansas City, MO along with numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Bud, four sisters, Lois Dicus, Rosa Burgoon, Evelynn Gow, Juanita Zatarain, his loiving wife, Beverly, sons Bob Terry, Toy Zatarain, Scott Covalt and his first wife, Frances Rehder. Harold was a wonderful husband, dad, grandfather, uncle and a guiding light to many. Graveside services will be at 2 p.,. on Saturday, April 12 at the Sunset View Cemetery in Eagle.
