Pat Foley, a longtime Vail resident, lost his battle with melanoma Aug. 24. He was 49. Foley died peacefully at the home of Steve and Carla Guaracio in Eagle-Vail.

Many locals will remember Foley from the early days of Vail, when he was employed at Pistachio's on Bridge Street. Others will remember his many St. Patrick's Day birthday celebrations. In the final weeks of his life, Foley remained optimistic.

He was comforted by the love and support of his many friends, and particularly his 14-year-old son, Scot Foley was born March 17, 1951, in Longbeach, Calif.

In addition to his son Scot Foley is survived by his father John Foley and three brothers, Owen Foley, Bill Foley and Jamie Foley. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen, who died Aug. 9.

A benefit college scholarship fund has been set up for Scot Foley, who is an eighth-grader attending the Eagle County Charter Academy in Edwards.
