John Forest was born in St . Jerome , Quebec , Canada , January 30 , 1852 . He was married November 8 , 1883 , to Miss Josephine Giroux , and three years later the young couple migrated to the United States , locating at Leadvilie In 1886 . Mr . Forest followed mining in Leadvilie , remaining there until 1897 , when the family moved to Red Cliff , living there and at Gilman until 1918 , when he retired from the mining business . Coming to Eagle he and his wife opened up a boarding house , known as the Forest Hotel , and he also embarked in the shoe and harness repair business He conducted the latter business until one year ago , when , owing to advancing years , he sold out an retired from active business , although he and Mrs . Forest continued to operate the rooming house . His health has failed rapidly during the past year , but he was not thought to be in any lower state of health than usual until noon , when he began to fail rapidly , and before midnight * surrounded by his wife and those of the family living in Eagle , he passed away quite suddenly . The deceased is survived b y the widow , living in Eagle ; three brothers and one sister in Canada ; and eight children—Mrs . Mary Belding and Mrs . Marguerite Stem of Eagle ; John Forest , Cheyenne , Wyo . ; Arthur Forest , Butte , Mont . ; William Forest , Los Angeles , Calif . ; Mrs . Bva Buckley , Silver Plume , Colo . ; Mrs . Emma Kelso , Mullen , Ida . ; Mrs . Anna Desplaines , Pawhuska , Okla . With the exception of one son , William , who was unable to be here , all of the children were present at the funeral . Thursday morning relatives and a large concourse of friends gathered at the Catholic church wheie mass for the deceased was held by Rev . Father C . B . Kesseler of Glenwood Springs . After the church services , the body was Interred in Valley View cemetery in Eagle , beside that or his eldest son , Fred , who passed on a few years ago . Pall bearers were Wm . J . Median , W . M . Wilson , Gus Meyer , Alex Macdonell , Herman A . about 4 : 00 oclock Sunday a » airBrown , and Mike Griffin .
