Lary Layton Hook
November 4, 1939 - September 25, 2016
Lary moved to Colorado as a teenager with his parents and siblings and graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1958. He went on to proudly serve our country as a United States Marine. He returned to Grand Junction,Colorado to serve in his community as a peace office for the Grand Junction Police Department, then spent several years with social services.
You could find him at the Cactus Park Speedway each
weekend either behind the wheel of #31 racing on the mile stock car track or running the program from the pits.
With children grown and out of the house, his next chapter
took he and his wife to North Carolina. Lary "never met a
stranger" fitting right in through his work for the state in animal
control and the North Carolina Zoo.
As his health deteriorated, it was time to move closer to family
which brought them back west to enjoy retirement life in New
Mexico. You would see him chatting it up with everyone as he
would "Pick em up and Put em down" on his daily walk around
the neighborhood. He always had a smile, and that contagious
laugh.
On September 25, 2016, Lary lost his battle with Alzheimer’s
disease.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Jeanette Hook
and his nephew, Allen Bradshaw.
He is survived by his amazing wife of more than 47 years,
Jerilee Hook; sisters, Linda and Lynette of Colorado, and
brother, Chad of Ohio; his three girls, Mikki, Leslie and Kari;
three grandchildren; one grand-puppy, and four greatgrandchildren.
Lary was one to always "Cowboy up and Git er’Done." At his
request, no services are planned.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s
Association and/or the North Carolina Zoological Society
