Bert was born in Fruita, CO,
on December 29, 1926, to
Albert Sr. and Pearl Long. He
had two older sisters, Pauline
and Evelyn, and one younger
one, Norma, who lives in
Spokane, WA.
Bert went to Loma Grade
School and Fruita High
School in Colorado. He joined the Navy in 1944 and was
discharged in 1946. His Navy training was at Great Lakes and
after a short leave at home he was assigned to a U.S. cargo ship
“The Talita” which took him to the South Pacific and Japan. He
was discharged from the Navy August 15,1946, at the Navy Pier
in Chicago.
He then traveled to Bickleton, WA to work for his brother in
law at the Bickleton Garage. It was there that he met Jean Read
and they were married November 7th, 1948. Jean passed away
November 22, 2015, after a fall caused brain damage.
Bert is survived by his sister, Norma and her husband, Clyde
Rogers, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces; grandnephews,
and great-grand-nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at Moro Community
Presbyterian Church on Saturday, October 1, 2016, at 11:00
a.m.
