Helen Theresa Grantham
was born on December 11,
1926, in Bolivar, MO, to Fred
and Sophia Pecha.
She married Silas "Si"
Grantham on January 24,
1948, in Springfield, MO, and
they moved to Grand Junction
in April of 1956. They soon
adopted children, Joseph and
Theresa, and raised their
family happily in the Grand Valley. Helen worked for the public
school system as a cook at Orchard Avenue Elementary for
many years during this time.
Helen loved bowling and participated in many state and
national tournaments. She was on the Board of Directors for the
Grand Junction Women’s Bowling Association. Her further love
of sports was also on display in the many golf tournaments she
participated in individually and with her husband, Si. She also
assisted Si in sponsoring JUCO teams with the Optimist Club
each year, and they both attended games on a regular basis.
She was a Cub Scout leader and a Girl Scout leader. She loved
crocheting and playing bingo. Helen was very complimentary to
everyone and was very kind and caring.
Helen is survived by her son, Jody and his wife, Dawn, as well
as her daughter, Theresa Smatla and her husband, Paul. She has
four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom
she truly loved and cherished on a daily basis. She was preceded
in death by her parents, brother, four sisters, and husband, Si.
Services will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016 at Callahan-
Edfast Mortuary at 11:00 a.m. with burial following in the
Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
