Donald V. Ficklin, 85, Grand Junction, died Jan. 1, 2017, at St.
Mary’s Hospital.
Private services will take place. Burial will be at New Elmwood
Cemetery.
He was an engineer.
Survivors include three sons, Scott of Grand Junction, Darren
of Henderson, Nevada, and Paul Babcock of Parachute; and eight
grandchildren.

Donald Vance Ficklin
October 31, 1931 - January 1, 2017
Donald Vance Ficklin, 85, a life long resident of Grand Junction, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2017, at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Don was born on October 31st, 1931, and was the youngest son of Clyde and Hazel Ficklin. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Claude Ficklin and wife Frances Ficklin.
Don graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1950 and
then enlisted in the U.S Navy where he served his country
honorably in the Korean War. Don retired from Mountain Bell
Telephone after more than 40 years of service in the late 1990’s.
He married Lydia Thomas in 1964. They had two sons. He
later married Frances Thompson and they enjoyed 17 years
together. Frances died in 2002.
Don leaves behind sons, Darren Ficklin (Barbara) of
Henderson, Nevada; Scott Ficklin of Grand Junction, and Paul
Babcock (Laurie) and his children of Parachute; nephew, Dean
Ficklin of Grand Junction; grandchildren, Kasey, Jack and
Carrigan (Darren), Henderson, Nevada and Ryan (Scott), Grand
Junction. He will also be missed dearly by his dog, Honey, who
was his constant companion.
Don was laid to rest at the Elmwood Cemetary in Fruita next
to Frances on Friday January 6th. As always, Don did not want
to burden anyone and requested that no services be held.
