Velma Lucille Bartling
Chambers, 91, died peacefully
in her sleep the evening of
January 15, 2017, at Beehive
Homes in Grand Junction,
Colorado.
She was born in Lodgepole,
Nebraska on August, 22,
1925. She attended Business
School in Grand Island, Nebraska before meeting and marrying
the love of her life, Johnnie H. Chambers in 1945. They moved
to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where Velma worked as a
bookkeeper and business manager for 30 years. They moved to
Anchorage, Alaska in 1975, then to Estes Park, Colorado in
1980, for their retirement. After Johnnie’s death, Velma moved
to Grand Junction, Colorado to be close to family in 1992.
Velma is survived by her daughter, Susan Elenz (Frank);
grandchildren, Charles Chambers (Wei), Joshua Warren
(Jennifer), and Erica Murtaugh (Joseph), and eight greatgrandchildren,
Jennah, Joshua, Jonah, Jordan, Luke, Finn,
Bryce, and Maxwell. She deeply loved and was loved by her
family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie
Chambers; son, Larry Chambers; grandson, Chad Chambers;
two brothers, three sisters and her parents.
A memorial service will be held at the church she attended
loyally, the Church of Christ of Grand Junction on Patterson
Road on Friday, February 10th, at 11:00 a.m. Velma was
cremated at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary and her ashes will be
scattered in Estes Park per her wishes.
Memorial contributions may be sent to her beloved charity, the
Mountain States Children’s Home in Longmont, Colorado.

Velma B. Chambers, 91, Grand Junction, died Jan. 15, 2017, at
Beehive Homes Assisted Living.
Services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of Christ
of Grand Junction.
She was a bookkeeper and business manager.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan Elenz of Grand Junction;
three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
