Perfecto C. Rivera, age 86 years, passed away at his son's home in the Sweetwater Valley of Colorado on Monday, Sept. 4, 2017.
Perfecto was born on March 28, 1931, in Canjilon, New Mexico, to the late Jose Rivera and Sinforosa Martinez Rivera. On May 12, 1951, Perfecto married his beloved wife of 65 years, Mabel Madrid Rivera. They moved to Eagle in 1953 to raise their family. Perfecto worked as a ranch hand, miner and then for more than 30 years with the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad.
In 1978, they moved to Grand Junction. They were parishioners of St. Joseph Catholic Church, for which Perfecto volunteered his time to make thousands of rosaries.
Perfecto was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mabel; five siblings; and one grandchild, Mark.
Survivors include his daughters, Ruby (Jim) Schultz, Brunilda (Craig) Butters and Lorraine (Craig) Granlund; sons, Benny (Janet), Perfecto Jr. (Carol), Steve and Philip (Diane) Rivera; Mario (Angie) Madrid and David Madrid; his sisters, Gabina Madrid, Reyes Manzanarez and Sinfer Gomez; and his brother, Sergio Rivera. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction on Friday from 5 to 6 p.m. A rosary prayer service will begin a 6 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grand Junction on Saturday at 10 a.m. Graveside service will follow that afternoon at Cedar Hill Cemetery, in Gypsum, at 2:30 p.m.
