Marion Douglas Cunningham
November 1, 1922 - February 21, 2017
Marion Douglas Cunningham, 94, passed away February 21, 2017. From his birth on November 1, 1922, in Loveland, Oklahoma, he was dedicated to his family and the Lord.
After moving to Montrose, Colorado, he met and married Ardie Bell Weese on December 21, 1947. They were blessed
with three children, Doug (Janet), Kathleen Ware (Sheldon) and
David (Coleen); five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren;
four great-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.
Early on, Marion worked on the family ranch, delivered milk,
and owned a gas station in Montrose. He strived for more, so
after long days of working he completed correspondence school
through Mesa State College to become a civil engineer. His 28-
year career was spent working for the State of Colorado
expanding the interstate system through the Colorado
mountains.
Marion spent his golden years woodworking, fishing, and
traveling with Ardie Bell in their motorhome, often with their
boat behind. An avid baseball fan since childhood, he followed
both the New York Yankees and the Colorado Rockies, as well
the JUCO tournament. Many a spring and summer day were
spent watching a ball game (or two), often traveling to Arizona
or Denver.
Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Grand Junction
on 7th and Grand on March 3, 2017, at 10:00 a.m.
Memorial donations can be made in Marion’s name to
HopeWest Hospice, 3090B N. 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO
