Irene R. Ligrani, 96, Grand Junction, died Dec. 17, 2016, at her
home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Dec. 27 at Immaculate Heart of Mary
Catholic Church.
She was a librarian.
Survivors include her husband, Fred; two daughters, Frances
Ligrani Martz of Mesa, and Carole Ligrani Wood of Broomfield;
one brother, Jack Rider of Grand Junction; five grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; and seven great great-grandchildren.

Irene Ruth Ligrani, 96, died
December 17, 2016, at her
home in Grand Junction.
Born October 13, 1920, in
Greeley, Colorado, she was
the middle of 11 children of
German immigrants from
Russia, Johannes and
Margaret Hursch Rider.
On her 20th birthday she
married Fred Ligrani of Grand
Junction. They have remained happily and devotedly married for
the past 76 years—a true love story!
Irene worked as a children’s librarian for Mesa County Library
for many years, in addition to her other duties as chief vegetable
packager on her husband’s farm and mother of three. She loved
books and dressing as the Good Witch for story hour on
Halloween.
Always devoted to her family, she has been the strong and
loving cornerstone the family could depend on. She has loved,
supported, and taken care of, not only her children and their
posterity, but siblings, in-laws, friends, members of the church,
and anyone who walked in the back door. Through service and
her love of others, she leaves a legacy in the Grand Junction
community as an example of kindness and generosity that will
be hard to surpass.
She is preceded in death by her son, Alfred M. Ligrani, and
nine of her 10 siblings. She is survived by husband, Fred
Ligrani; daughters, Frances Ligrani Martz of Mesa and Carole
Ligrani Wood of Broomfield; daughter-in-law, Celia Paskalis
Ligrani of Grand Junction; brother, Jack Rider of Grand
Junction; granddaughter, Marcy Vroman of Mesa; grandsons,
Lin Sawyer of Grand Junction, Eric Sawyer of Mesa, Jake
Goodall of Arvada, and Jeff Goodall of Westminster; 11 greatgrandchildren;
seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous
step-grandchildren.
Matriarch, heroin, confidant, and loved every minute by her
family. A long life well lived!
Visitation will be Monday, December 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. at
Callahan Edfast Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be at Immaculate
Heart of Mary on Tuesday, December 27, at 10 a.m. Burial will
follow at Calvary Cemetery.
