Marie Eleanor Kay, 94, Grand Junction, died Feb. 16, 2017, at
Mantey Heights.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
She was a registered nurse.
Survivors include two sons, Murray “Skip” of Bloomfield, New
Mexico, and Robert “Butch” of Phoenix; one daughter, Suzy Cooper
of Whitewater; one brother, Wilbur Harris of Tennessee; six
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Marie Eleanor Kay left this
earthly world to be with her
family and heavenly Father on
February 16, 2017.
Marie was born on
September 1, 1922, in
Wagner, South Dakota, to
Vern and Violet Jordan
Harris. She was one of seven
children. She grew up in the
Wagner area, and graduated
from Nursing School in Rochester, Minnesota. She then joined
the Army Nurse Corps in World War II. After being discharged,
she traveled cross country with a friend and stopped in Phoenix,
Arizona, where on a blind date she met her future husband,
Murray Kay. They were married on August 29, 1947, in
Phoenix. They shared 60 years together.
They moved to the Grand Junction area in 1960, and Murray
built the house she lived in for the next 50 years. Marie worked
as an RN at St. Mary’s Hospital for nearly 30 years, working
mostly in the Recovery Room. She loved her job and had many
good friends to work with over the years.
Murray and Marie raised three children, Skip (Kathy) Kay,
Butch Kay, and Suzy (John) Cooper. She lives on through her
grandchildren, Danielle Vigil, Sarah Le Valley, Adam Cooper,
Jamie Cooper, Julie Cooper, and her great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren,
and a brother, Wilbur Harris, of Tennessee. She
is preceded in death by her husband, parents, five siblings, and a
grandson, Scott Kay.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 21, at
Callahan-Edfast Mortuary with burial at Memorial Gardens
Cemetery.
