Verna Lucille Loyd

Verna Lucille Loyd, 91, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2017, at the VA Hospital in Grand Junction.
She is survived by five siblings, Rosaline (Dale) Smith; Walt (Anita) Bettinger; Donna (Bert) Scholz, Robert (Sarah) Bettinger, and Ronald (Leslie) Bettinger. She is also survived by her children, Peter Watkins, Patrick (Diane) Hannun, Elizabeth (Bert) Scholz,
Katherine Yaffe, and Helene (Bob Silvey) Hannum; 12
grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was born in Straton, CO on February 26, 1925. She
enlisted in the Marines on February 27, 1945. She was the
President of the Golden Womens VFW Auxiliary for two years.
She survived three husbands.
She had several different careers such as switch board operator
for the telephone company in the late 1940’s and also for
Lakewood Police Dept in the 1970’s. The majority of her work
experience was as a waitress.
Throughout her life she enjoyed crafts of all kinds, going to
auctions and yard/estate sales. She enjoyed traveling with her
third husband and the local GJ Rock and Mineral Club,
exploring many states and collecting rocks.
A visitation will be held at Olinger-Woods Chapel, 1100
Washington Ave. in Golden on March 16 at 9:00 a.m. with
services to follow at 10:00 a.m. Internment will be at Mount
Olivet. Lunch will follow; location to be determined.
