Harold was born in Burlington, Colorado to a family of six sisters. He had 3 older sisters and 3 younger sisters. He grew up on the farm learning to do his share of the chores. A good work ethic was established early in his life. His paernts had chickens, pigs and cows and they farmed wheat and corn. He attended Waterville and Smokey Hill schools.

In 1947, the family moved to Grand Junction, Colorado on a much smaller 9 acre farm and raised their family.

Harold graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1951. He worked for various farmer and ranchers until he went to work for his Uncle Sam. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 and spent he entire time of service at Fort Ord, California. After the tour of duty he returned to Grand Junction to farming and ranching for himself on the farming end of Clymers Dairy.

He met and married Donna Terrill in 1964. They continued living in Grand Junction until Harold applied for a job with the Highway Department. He was hired as a maintenance worker and they moved to Springfield, CO. They came with the idea of transferring back to the western slope, when he had gotten the experience he needed to adavance.

Harold always had to be busy and his new 8:00 to 4:30 job didn't keep him moving enough so he worked doing tractor driving for Melvin Wessler and Frank Willson. He and Donna lived in town diring those first five years until they purchased 86 acres just south and east of town. There they raised wheat, cattle, bucket calves, chickens, and eventually the beloved goats. He retired from the Dept. of Transportation in April, 1995.

Serving the Lord and helping others were his hobbies. He delivered Meals on Wheels for several years. Felt he never had time to fish, but grew to love it after retirement. He was very much a people person and loved telling stories.

Harold enjoyed the final earthly birthday party on Saturday, June 18th where he saw nearly all his family and lots of friends helping to celebrate life. He died peacefully after the celebration on the following Tuesday morning.

He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, Donna; his four sisters, Jane Niblack and Wanda (Ken) Rossum of Phoenix, AZ; Carol Rossum of Hurricane, Utah; and Shirley (Steve) Sprague of Navada, Texas. He had 12 neices and hephews, 11 great nieces and nephews, and 3 great great nieces and nephews, plus a great host of friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sage Service, 1260 Main St., Suite 3, Springfield, CO 81073 in memory of Harold.
