Matthew Joseph Wray, 80, Grand Junction, died Feb. 21, 2017,
at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Mass will take place at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic
Church. Graveside services will follow at 1 p.m. at the Veterans
Cemetery of Western Colorado.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force and law enforcement.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Kay; three sons, Daniel and
Timothy, both of Fruita, and Michael of Punta Gorda, Belize; one
daughter, Kathleen Cimms of Fruita; one sister, Lynn Lueken of
Dyer, Indiana; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Matthew Joseph “Jim” Wray
of Grand Junction passed
away February 21, 2017 at the
VA Medical Center. He was
80.
Matthew was born on June
3, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois to
Matthew J. Wray and Dorothy
(Post) Wray. He joined the
United States Air Force in 1954 at the age of 17. During an
almost 22 year career, he served in various assignments in the
United States as well as overseas in Newfoundland, Germany,
Alaska, and Vietnam. His final assignment before his Air Force
retirement was as Technical Advisor to the Communications
Flights of the Colorado Air National Guard and the Wyoming
Air National Guard.
After retirement from the Air Force, Matthew moved to the
Chicago, Illinois area and then relocated to Orlando, Florida.
While he was in Orlando he worked for the Orange County
Sheriff’s Department and retired from that position in 1996.
Since leaving Orlando, Matthew lived in Aurora, Colorado and
then Las Cruces, New Mexico. He and his wife relocated to
Fruita in 2011 to be near family.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Kay, of Grand Junction;
daughter, Kathleen (Richard) Cimms of Fruita; sons, Daniel
(Janet) of Fruita, Michael (Caroline) of Punta Gorda, Belize,
and Timothy of Fruita. He is also survived by a sister, Lynn
Lueken of Dyer, Indiana; three grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held Monday, February 27 at 11 am at
St. Joseph’s Church in Grand Junction with a graveside service
to follow at 1 pm at the Veteran’s Cemetery of Western
Colorado. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in
Matthew’s name to HopeWest Hospice Care Center 3090 12th
Street Unit B, Grand Junction, Colorado 81506.
