Mary Carman (Dunn) Wood
died Monday, April 3, 2017,
in Grand Junction.
She was born January 17,
1926, at Salida, the daughter
of Howard and Arvilla Dunn.
She attended Fairview School
on Divide Creek through the
eighth grade, and then
boarded in Rifle to attend Rifle Union High School where she
graduated in 1943. She then attended Mesa College for a time.
She and Harry Wood were married on January 13, 1944, in
Denver. He preceded her in death June 1, 2010.
Mrs. Wood was primarily a homemaker, but also worked as a
real estate agent for several years. She also was a piano teacher.
She volunteered for many organizations, and worked many
children’s groups in 4-H, Cub Scouts and others. She was active
in extension clubs and Royal Neighbors, and volunteered at
Crossroads United Methodist Church, where she was also a
member of United Methodist Women. The Woods lived at Rifle
until 1967 when they moved to Grand Junction.
Survivors include son, Bob (Sue) Wood, Florence; son, Jim
(Becky) Wood, Grand Junction, and daughter, Lorna Devereux,
Grand Junction; seven grandchildren, Andy Wood, Lisa Wood,
Aaron Wood, Ryan Wood, David Wood, Carman Devereux and
Davis Devereux, and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving
are sisters-in-law, Beth Dunn of Silt and Dorothy Pretti, Silt,
and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded
in death by a brother, Gene Dunn; sisters-in-law, Mary May
Gordon and Georgia Rae Wood; brothers-in-law, Bill Wood,
Bob Pretti and Larry Gordon, and sons-in-law, Jay Devereux
and Jim Newsom.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at Crossroads
United Methodist Church, Grand Junction, with Pastor Alane
Currier Griggs officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill
Cemetery, Rifle, with a memorial service planned there later.
Arrangements were through Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
