Dunston Frank “Dusty” Boyd, 87, Grand Junction, died April
3, 2017, at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Henderson, Nevada.
Services will be at 2 p.m. April 29 at First United Methodist in
Grand Junction.
He was a metallurgical engineer.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Muhr Boyd; one son, David of
Henderson; one stepson, Andy Muhr of Delta; one daughter, Sharon
Sears of Shelton, Washington; two stepdaughters, Kathryn
Muhr Hart of Auburn, Kentucky and Beverly Muhr Campbell of
Grand Junction; one grandchild; six stepgrandchildren; one greatgrandchild;
three stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-greatgrandchild.

87, died April 3, 2017, at
Nathan Adelson Hospice in
Las Vegas, Nevada. Services
will be April 29, 2017, at 2:00
p.m., in First United
Methodist Church, 522 White
Avenue, Grand Junction,
Colorado. A reception at the
church will follow the service.
Mr. Boyd was born in Sewell, Chile, to Arch F. and Martha
Dunstone Boyd. He spent his childhood in Sewell, Chile, and in
Pine Creek (Bishop) California. He graduated from Bishop High
School and Colorado School of Mines. Following graduation,
he served two years in the Army Corps of Engineers. His career
as Metallurgical Engineer took him to positions at the U.S.
Vanadium’s property in Rifle, Colorado; Liberia Mining
Company’s Bomi Hills, Liberia, Iron Ore property; Liberia
American Mining Company (LAMCO) Iron Ore property in
Nimba and Buchanan, Liberia; Eagle Mountain Mine, Eagle
Mountain, California. He retired from Kaiser Engineers in
Oakland, California.
He married his college sweetheart, Marilyn Hyland, on
October 27, 1950. Dusty and Marilyn had a son and a daughter.
Marilyn passed away in 1995. Dusty then met and married Ann
Taylor Muhr in 1996 and gained another son and two daughters.
Dusty enjoyed restoring old cars, traveling in his motor home,
four-wheeling and investigating old mines in the San Juan
Mountains. His friends will miss his stories, as he always had a
new one to share. It wasn’t unusual for friends to ask Dusty if he
had a story for them!
Ann and Dusty enjoyed each other, and their time together
until the very end. They were both thankful to have found
someone with whom to share their lives, adventures, and
families. Dusty attended the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include wife, Ann; son, David Boyd (Tricia) of
Henderson, Nevada; daughter, Sharon Boyd Sears of Shelton,
Washington; step-son, Andy Muhr (Julie) of Delta, Colorado;
step-daughters, Kathy Muhr Hart (Michael) of Auburn,
Kentucky, and Beverly Muhr Campbell (David) of Grand
Junction; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the
First United Methodist Church, 522 White Avenue, Grand
Junction 81501; or to HopeWest, 3090B N. 12th St., Grand
Junction 81506.
