Grand Junction Daily Sentinel page 6B Obituary - April 26, 2017

Max Kendall, a loving
husband, father, grandfather,
and great-grandfather passed
away at Aspen Ridge Care
Center on April 11, 2017.
Max was born on April 12,
1927. His parents were John
and Henrietta Kendall. He
lived all his life in Grand
Junction and attended schools
here. He graduated from
Grand Junction High School in 1945. Always involved in sports
since the seventh grade, he was the only sophomore on the
varsity "Tiger" football team. He was an excellent swimmer and
wrestled to keep in shape for football. Max set a track broad
jump record that stood unbroken for many years at Grand
Junction High School. His senior year, he was chosen to receive
the second annual "Homer Biggs" memorial trophy, given for
the "Outstanding Athlete of The Year" in 1945.
Upon graduation, he joined the Navy and served on the island
in Guam in the Seabees unit. His military service was always
special to him. Upon discharge, he attended, played Maverick
football and was graduated from Mesa College in 1948 (now
CMU). There he met his future wife of 68 years, Jeannine
Sisler. After attending Colorado Agriculture College (now
CSU), he and Jeannine were married on March 20, 1949, at the
former Presbyterian Church in downtown Grand Junction. They
left immediately for Milwaukee, Wisconsin where Max studied
at the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Back again in Grand Junction, he worked in the family
business, Kendall Electric CO, founded in May 1932 by his
parents. He assumed its ownership in 1952 and was directly
involved with its growth and expansion until 1994. He was
always proud and grateful that his sons, Cliff, Don and Mark
joined the firm, managing offices in Denver, Colorado Springs,
and Fort Collins, CO.
Always active in and supportive of athletics, he and several
friends were instrumental in establishing and managing "Pee
Wee" wrestling for seventh and eighth graders. After several
years, it became part of the Grand Junction City Athlete and
Recreational Program. Max was honored to be presented the
"Mesa College Distinguished Alumni Award," in 1980 in
recognition of outstanding service to Mesa College and the
community.
Max was a member of the Grand Junction Lions Club for over
54 years as well as The National Electrical Contractors
Association in Salt Lake City, Utah, The Rocky Mountain
Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc, Grand
Junction Quarterback Club, and Maverick Booster Club.
Max and Jeannine loved to travel in their motorhome
throughout the US and with their boat, Lake Powell was their
favorite, and abroad to many countries and islands.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannine; sons, John Clifford
(Selma) Kendall, Donald Earl (Julie) Kendall, and Mark Edward
Kendall; grandchildren, John, Jeremy, Brian, Randy and
Brandon Kendall, Nicole Fuller, and Steve Needham, and his
great-grandchildren.
Many thanks and great appreciation for the kind and loving
care at Aspen Ridge Care Center and HopeWest Hospice Care.
Max’s Memorial donations can be made to HopeWest, 3090 B
12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at
2:00 p.m. at Faith Heights Church, 600 28-1/4 Road, Grand
Junction Colorado.
