ANOTHER PIONEER GONE . O
One of the oldest settlers of Eagle county paused away last Sunday, when Alred Handscome, of Wolcott, was called to his last reward. Mr. Handscome was eighty-four years old at the time of his death and had been a resident of this county since seventy nine or eighty, from the best information we can get . For many years he and his aged wife had been living on a small ranch one mile west of Wolcott and until the last year or two,ravages of age had commened to show theeir effects on the old gentleman, he had been hale and hearty. He met with an accident this spring, which seriously effected his health, and as a result had been seriously despondent for some weeks. However , lie had been he had been up to his ranch
work up to a few days previous to his death, not taking to his bed until last Friday evening. However the end came soon when he died Sunday afternoon and Eagle lost one of the hardy men who helped make an empire out of this wilderness that is now the great state of Colorado. Mr Handscome was know by nearly every resident of this county, and numbered his friends in the hundreds. The aged wife has the sympathy of all in the loss of her husband and companion of many years. The funeral was held from the Methodist church in Eagle Monday afternoon and attended by a large concord of old friends and neighbors. The body was laid to rest in Eagle cemetery.
