BILL HARTMAN KILLED IN ACCIDENT
Bill Hartman, 34, died in St. Mary Hospital in Grand Junction Friday ot head injuries received when he was struck by a falling tree earlier that afternoon near Fruita. Mr. Hartman, owner of a contracting business, had a contract to build a reservoir or the City of Fruita, and was working a cat, when the tree fell and struck him on the head Friday afternoon, and knocked him unconscious. Witnessing the accident were his brother Fred and Harold Kirby and Raymond Kirby, Eagle County men. The injured man was taken to the hospital, where surgery failed to save his life. Mr. Hartman and his family had moved from Burns to Fruita some time ago, returning to this vicinity or the summer months. Well known throughout the county, Mr- Hartman had lived nearly his entire life in the Piney and Burns region of the County, and was especially well known among stockmen throughout the county. William Phillip Hartman was the third child born to Nettie and George Hartman and was born at Kremmling, December 27, 1915. His childhood was lived on the Hartman ranch on Piney, where his parents lived until a few years ago when they moved to Hayden. He received his schooling in the Piney school and in the Eagle High SchoolIn December, 1938, Miss Violet Jones of lowa, who had been visiting her aunt, Mrs. Bob Irwin at the Statebridge Hotel, and Mr. Hartman were united in marriage at Steamboat Springs. For a while the couple lived near Piney then moved to Burns They have two sons, Bill, and Chris, ages 9 and 7. Also surviving are the parents. Mr. and Mrs. George Hartman ot Hayden; a sister, Louise Hartman Roberts of Bos Angeles ; three brothers, Fred, Tom of Gypsum and Marshall of Patagonia, Arizona. Funeral servces were at 2 p. m- at the Fruita Methodist Church, with the Rev. Norman Jensen officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery at Fruita. Pall bearere were friends of long time standing: Harold Porter, Wilbur Luark, Raymond Mansfield, Harold Kirby, Leonard Wells, and Ray Hayes Mrs. Hartman wiil remain in Fruita, to- make her home and will continue with the business in charge of Mr- Kirby. All immediate members of the family were present for the funeral, with Mr. and Mrs. Roberts flying from Los Angeles; Mr and Mrs. Marshall Hartman drove from Ariz - ona, and Mrs. Hartman’s mother Mrs Jones and two ssters Mrs Dunbar and Mrs. Ramsey came from lowa. Mrs. Irwin, the aunt came from Denver Other relatives of the deceased who came for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Charley Switzer and Phillip Hartman of Arcade; Mrs. Loyd Hawkins of Boulder, Mr. and Mrs Charley Hartman of Denver, Mr. and Mrs Lum Eastin of Kremmling, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Austin of Oak Creek, Mr and Mrs. Ralph Hartman of Price, Utah; Mrs. Dora Fields and George Fields of Parshall, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Lield and Ms. Tom Field of Gunnison
