Tripple Drowning At Minturn Last Week.

BODIES OF TWO BROTHERS AND COMPANION FOUND DEAD IN SWIM MING HOLE BY PLAYMATES.

Tragedy hit two Minturn homes Thursday afternoon, Aug. 10, when three boys lost their lives while swimming in a pond south of Minturn. The bodies of Pedro, 14, and Philip, 9, Hernandez, brothers, and Jimmie Cordova, 8, were found late Thursday afternoon, by two Spanish boys who had gone to the pond to swim. The youngsters recognized the clothing laying on the bank of the swmmng hole, and called to the boys. When they got no response, they started lookng for them, only to find the three bodes lying at the bottom of the pond, which is five or six feet deep. The pond was the old gravel pit near the mouth of Cross creek, usett when the new highway was built through there several years ago. The two brothers and their playmate had left their homes around 2:30 that afternoon to go swimming. What was the cause of theilr drownmgs, or any of the circumstances concerning the tragedy will probably never be known, as there were no witnesses.

Pedro and Philip were the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Ramon Hernandez of Minturn, and leave six brothers and sisters to carry on. Both boys were born in Red Cliff, Pedro being born on Feb. 23, 1940, while the younger boy was bom on Aprl 8, 1935. Mrs. Hernandez, who has been critically ill for some time, left her sick bed to attend the double ftuieral of her two sons, when CathoHc«iT»ervices were held by Father Kessler in Minturn Sunday afternoon. The boys were buried in a double grave in the Minturn cemetery. Jimmy Cordova was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Cordova of Minturn, and was born in the Gilman hospital on June 2, 1936. His body was taken to Mora, N. M., on Monday for burial there Wednesday. He was a popular little fellow among the young people of Minturn, and will be missed not only by his parents, but a great number of friends. Both the Hernandez and Cordova families are among the highly respected families of Minturn, and the sympathy of the county is extended to the two families during their grief.
