Darleen McKissen, 68, of Grand Junction, passed away April
9, 2017, at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was born in California, February
20, 1949, and moved to Grand Junction in 1960.
She graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1967 and
attended Mesa Junior College (CMU). She was an Environmental
Health Specialist for the Mesa County Health Department
and retired after 34 years.
After retirement she was a founding member of the Red Hat
Society. She loved crafting and was a prolific quilter. She loved
animals and gardening, but most of all she loved being a Grandma!
She is preceded in death by husband, Laverne McKissen; mother,
Estella Bement; sister, Karen Brown; step-son, Mark Ryne,
and her grandson, Tanner Denton.
She is survived by son, Rick McKissen (fiancé, Jeannie Harbin);
sister, Janice Scott (Marshall); brother, Allen Downs;
granddaughter, Rileigh McKissen; aunt and uncle, Helen and
Guy "Alex" Alexander; step-daughters, Karla Coleman (Gene)
and Julie Kochevar; step-son, Ron Rhyne (Lisa), and her special
friend, Ron Beach.
A celebration of life will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary
on April 22, 2017, 9:00 a.m. Cremation has taken place and she
will be interred at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Grand
Junction.
