Being interested in railroad construction he entered this work and left for what was known as the great Northwest. This included the Dakotas, Montana, Washington, Oregon and British Columbia. In 1914 he returned to Gypsum where he remained since, engaging in farming. He was preceded in death by his mother, three brothers, a sister and an uncle buried in Gypsum; a brother buried in Leadville, and a sister and his father buried in Sweden.
