Edwina Josephine
Saunders
December 31, 1926 - April 18, 2017
In loving memory, Edwina J.
Saunders, age 90, passed
away in her home the morning
of April 18, 2017. Her beloved
daughter, Peggy, was
by her side. Grandsons, Gary
Crock and Dean O’Connor,
were with her during her remaining
days of life.
Edwina married Phil Wood
in Salida, CO, in 1947. Together
they also adopted and
raised their daughter, Peggy.
After Phil’s passing, Edwina
moved to Grand Junction for
the remainder of her life. She
married Melvin ‘Goob’ Saunders.
His family welcomed Edwina
with open arms of love
into their lives. After Goob’s
passing, his adult children
took care of her, making sure
she was loved, safe, and happy.
During her travel to Paris, France, with Peggy, she met
Delphine Donné, her grandson, Gary Crock’s future wife. Traveling
south to Tours, France, they both met the Donné family. This
was a great vacation! So many places to visit!
She stayed active by doing yoga regularly and walking with
her friends in the mall. Edwina was an artisan, master of various
arts. She kept busy making quality china pieces, beautiful quilts,
and oil landscape paintings. At one time Edwina provided
classes demonstrating Ukrainian Egg Decorating for the Brush
& Palette Club. She was part of the Broadstrokes, the last group
of five lady friends who got together having fun and sharing art
techniques and skills.
Family left with memories of her life and her spirit she shared
with us are daughters, Peggy Meyer, Karen O’Connor, Linda
Martinez; sons, Richard Meyer, Gary Saunders; granddaughters,
Delphine Donné Crock, and Samantha Meyer; grandsons, Gary
Crock, Dean O’Connor, A.J. Martinez, Adam Martinez, and
Ben Meyer; great-grandkids, Charlie Crock; her little brother,
Zackary, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Peggy and her husband, Richard, want to thank all of Edwina’s
family and friends for giving her joy and love in her life.
There will be no service at this time.
