OBITUARIES

DUANE E. LARSEN

Funeral services for Duane Elmer Larsen were conducted by the Reverend L. I!. Friend in the Eagle Masonic Temple Sunday afternoon Sept. 15. The crowded temple was testimony to Mr. Larsen’s popularity with these who had known him all his life, and with the many friends Ere had made-through his Masonic and Eastern Star work. Duane Larsen was born December 20, 1919 to Hans and Hester Figgins Larsen at Eagle, Colorado. He attended elementary school at the lower Brush Creek school and graduated from Eagle High School.

He served in the service of his country for four years, seeing action in North Africa and Italy.

He returned home to Brush Creek in October 1945 and on November 25 of that year was united in marriage to Velma Ewing Eagle school teacher. They lived on the Larson ranch on Brush Creek, where Duane was engaged in farming with his father until his death September 13, 1963.

Duane was active in livestock and agricultural organizations and served as secretary of the Salt Creek Cattle Pool. An avid sportsman. a favorite recreation wad blunting and fishing, an interest shared by his wife. They were also equally active in Eastern Star work in which they had each held the highest office possible Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron. Duane was also a leading Mason, holding vartans offices in the lodge. At the time of his death, he was president of the Beacon Club, a Western Colorado Estern Star organization, and was Sentinel in the local OES chapter this term.

Duane's love of young people was displayed din his work with the local Rainbow Girls chapter.

Castle Lodge 122 conducted Masonic rites at the cemetery Sunday. Pallbearers were Odis Simpson [Sampson], Fred Colby, Dan Rule, Ira Bindley, Glen Chambers, and Harry Long.
Mr. Larsen is survived by his wife, Velma, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Larsen, a sister, Melissa, a niece Mary Jo Gerard of Gypsum and a nephew, Robert Trezise of Eagle.
