TOM LEWIS DIED IN HOSPITAL DEC. 10

Death claimed Thomas E. Lewis, retired Eagle merchant Sunday, Doc. 19, 1961, a few hours after he suffered a stroke at his home in Eagle.

Mr. Lewis had Lived in Eagle since 1915. He was born in Broad-top, Pa. Oct. 12, 1872 and came to Boulder, Colorado as a young man For a time he managed a store at Erie before coming to Western Colorado and entered the mercantile business at Palisade with the J.W. Hugus Co. There he met Miss Ella Rose Berger, a clerk at the old Fair Store in Grand Junction- ' The couple were married March 3. 1907 and eight years later cam© to Eagle. For a time they were in business with Herman Kluge in the mercantile business, later buying Mr. Kluge’s interest. T.re present H. W. Lewis Store is one of the oldest businesses in Eagle to remain under the original family operation. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis, their daughter. Imogene, and their two sons, Harry and John have all worked with the store. Upon Mrs. Lewis's death a few years ago, Harry and his wife Teresa have been the managersMr. Lewis was the last living charter member of the Palisade Masonic Lodge, anti recently was honored at a dinner in Palisade, when he received his 50-year pin. Mr. Lewis has been confined to Iris home since he broke Ms hip a few years ago Friday lie suffered. a stroke and entered the Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs Saturday. He passed away Sunday morning.

Reverend H. C. Moonhead of the Eagle Methodist Church officiated at the services Tuesday morning, and burial was in Sunset View Cemetery, Eagle, directed by Miller Mortuary. Pallbearers were Tom Winters, Fred Rule, Howard McCain, Bob Mediation, Wayde Rogers and Harold Randall. Mr Lewis was preceded in death by his wife, who passed away Dec. S. 1954. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Cyrus (Imogene) Dice of Eagle: and two sons, Harry of Eagle and John of Gresham, Ore. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Addie Autrey and Miss Zella Lewis' both of Santa Barbara, Calif.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
