Maria D. Lopez died Saturday May 19 in her home in Minturn at the age of 73. She was born November 23, 29127 in Llano, NM. Her parents were the Algred and Eliseria (Chacon) Mondragon. She married Dennis J. Lopez and together they had 11 children, five of whom died in infancy. Friends and family said Mrs. Lopez loved sewing, baking bread, and being outdoors; she liked playing bingo and watching trains; and most of all, she loved being with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1984. Mrs. Lopez is survived by children, Shirley Lucero of Minturn, Bell (Bill) Darnell of Canon City, Dennis J. (Stephanie) Lopez, Lorraine Lopez, Eloy W. (Patricia) Lopez, and Sandy Lopez all of Minturn. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, two sisters and three brothers. According to her wishes, Mrs. Lopez was cremated. Her family will take her ashes to Santa Fe, NM where they will be interred in the Santa Fe National Cemetery where her husband rests.
