Former Burns resident Freda May Lowe, 92, died Feb. 13 at her home in Missoula, MT. A graveside memorial service is slated for Feb. 27 at the Rosebud Cemetery in Glenwood Springs. Lowe was born Sept. 26, 1916 in Rockbridge, Ill. to Doug and Laura Meeks. Freda lived in Burns, Colo. for 50 years. She married Dick Lowe of July 25, 1935. He worked as a section foreman for the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad. Freda won many blue ribbons for her beautiful handmade quilts. She also enjoyed playing cards, and in her early years she was an avid gardener. Eventually Freda moved from Burns to Missoula MT where she could be closer to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include two daughters, Ruby Richards and husband Ron, and Fawn Megaard and husband Wilbur. Survivors also include 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Family requests that rather than flowers, memorial gifts should be directed to a hospice of choice.
