Urban Alexander Schafer,
86, passed away Sunday, April
23, 2017, at his home in
Grand Junction, CO.
He was born to Alexander
and Clara Schafer on January
17, 1931, in Fort Collins,
Colorado. After spending his
early years in De Beque, the
family moved to Fruita where
he attended Fruita Union High
School and married Alva Hallar; they were later divorced.
Urban joined the Army Medical Corps in June 1951 and
served with honor in the Korean War.
In April 1972 he married Mina Belle Stanley, and together for
the next 41 years, they shared their life and love of travel and
adventure.
He is survived by five children, Wayne Schafer, Sulphur, OK;
Melvin Schafer, Fruita, CO; Don Schafer Grand Junction; Mike
Stark, Sun City, AZ, and Cindy Moore, Grand Junction, CO;
sister, Barbara Smith, Grand Junction, and brothers, Lavern
Schafer, Sun City, AZ; Dean Schafer, Sun City, AZ; Richard
Schafer, Grand Junction, CO, and Larry Schafer, Grand
Junction, CO.
A service celebrating his life will be held Saturday, April 29 at
4:00 p.m. with viewing from 3:30- 4:00 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast
Mortuary, 2515 Patterson Road, Grand Junction, CO. Burial
will be at the Veterans Cemetery in Grand Junction at 1:00 p.m.
on Monday, May 1.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in his
memory may be made to HopeWest Hospice or The American
Lung Association.

Urban Alexander Schafer, 86, Grand Junction, died April 23,
2017, at his home.
Services will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday at Callahan-Edfast
Mortuary.
Survivors include four sons, Wayne of Sulphur, Oklahoma, Melvin
of Fruita, Don of Grand Junction and Milton Stark of Sun City,
Arizona; one daughter, Lucinda Moore of Grand Junction; four
brothers, Laverne and Dean, both of Sun City, Arizona, and Richard
and Lawrence, both of Grand Junction; one sister, Barbara Smith
of Grand Junction; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
