KILLED IN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT SUNDAY
MRS . ANNA MATHEWS DIES FROM BROKEN NECK RECEIVED WHEN CAR CRASHES ON STATE HIGHWAY NEAR GLENWOOD CANON . Henry Baer , aboard passeng . r train No . 4 , while being rushed to a Salida hospital following an automobile accident Sunday evening of which &_ e was a victim . Mrs . Mathews came to Eagle Sunday m : ruing from Glenwood Sprlugs to spend the day with her parents , riding with Claude Beckham , an au . omobile salesman for the Shoup Motor company of Glenwood Springs . ES _ e spent the day here , and abcut five o . lok i nthe evening she and her companion started on the return tor Glenwood when the fatal accident occurred . A short distance below Silome Springs on the state highway and while driving at a high rate o ; speed , Beckham , who was driving a Chrysler touring .-ar , nut another car and turned out to pass . Just how it happened I 3 not clear , whether the car skidded 1 nthe lose gravel , or the steering gear failed to workâbut the car shot HC . oss t ae road and turned over . Mrs . ews escaped serious injury . Mrs . Mathews was taken to Glenwcod at once , and her parents in Eagle notified . They at once went to Glenwood , B . F . Long taking them down in his car . They had their daughter boarded on No . 4 for a Salida hospital in hopes of saving her life , but the injury proved fatal and the unfortunate woman died before t ., e train reached Salida . The remains were returned to Eagle Monday evening for burial here . Anna Baer was born In York county . Nebr ., August 16 , 1886 , daughter of Mr . and Mrs . Henry Baer , and died Monday , July 18 , 1927 , near Buena Vista , Colo . At the age of four years hhe moved with her parents to Colorado , they settling near Norie , in the Frying Pan valley . When she waa sixteen years of age her parentscame to Eagle , where -he accompanied them . She had lived the greater part ol her life in Eagle , having married
snd raised ; her children here . About a year ago she was again married and mcved to Gienwod Springs . Besides her parents , she is survived by her two sons , Clarence Rule and Howard Brown , both living in Glenwood Springs , and one brother , Edw . Baer , of Riland , Colo . The do : eased lady had the respect of fae friends among whom she had spent the greater part of her life , and her sudden and sad death was a shock , to her many friends . She waa a member of the local Methodist < lurch and of the Women of Woodvraft . Funeral services were held at the Eagle Community Methodist church , Tuesday afternoon , Rev . A . R . Dennis pastor of the church conducting the -ervlcea . Interment waa made in the Eagle cemetery following the church service . The services were attended by a large congregation of sorrowing f tends , many o fthe business houses closing during the funeral hour .
