March 26, 1932 - June 2, 2017
Carl R. Cook, Sr. passed away on June 2, 2017, at his home in Grand Junction, Colorado.
He was born on March 26,1932, in Pea Green, Colorado to Joe and Ruth Cook. Carl
grew up in the Pea Green area on a big farm. He graduated from Olathe High School in 1950. After high school, he went into the Army and served for three years being a clerk
from 1951 to 1954 and was honorably discharged.
Carl went on to work in the uranium field after he served in the
Army. Then he worked on the railroad, at Union Carbide and
Colorado Ute in Montrose. Later, he worked at Mesa College as
a Director of Data Processing and he retired from there in 1978.
Carl’s lifelong grade school friends were Phil Morlang and
Dallas Sturgeon. He and Phil met every morning for coffee and
enjoyed each other’s company and stories.
Carl and his son, Carl Jr., were beekeepers and worked
together for ten years. His son will miss him very much. Carl
and his second son, Gary, along with his grandchildren, enjoyed
fishing and numerous outdoor activities together. Carl was a
loving and kind father, husband and grandfather. He loved his
children, grandchildren and great-grandchild with all his heart.
He always took an interest in all of them.
His survivors are wife, Kay; sons, Carl Jr. (Denise) Cook of
Grand Junction, Colorado and Gary (Katie) Cook of San Diego,
CA; five grandchildren, Evan, Isabelle and Walker Cook of San
Diego, California; Breanna (Christopher) Matlock of Fruita,
Colorado, and Sarah Cook of Grand Junction, Colorado; greatgranddaughter,
Brooklyn Matlock of Fruita, Colorado; sisters,
Janet (Larry) McCoy of Delta, Colorado and Sue (Mick)
Devries of Montrose, Colorado. He is preceded in death by his
parents; sisters, Patty Cook, Mary Wallace and Dorothy Cooper; brother, Bob Cook and daughter, Diana Cook.
The funeral service will be held at Callahan-Edfast, 2515
Patterson Road, on Friday, June 9 at 10:00 a.m. and visitation
on Thursday, June 8 from 4 - 6:00 p.m. Burial services will be
held at Memorial Gardens cemetery.
