Joseph Michael Martinez, 70, Grand Junction, died June 19,
2017, at his home.
Services will take place at 10 a.m. July 24 at the Veterans Memorial
Cemetery of Western Colorado. Life celebration will follow from
1-5 p.m. at Riverside Park.
He was a brick mason.
Survivors include two daughters, Giovanna Martinez, and Chantae
Pennell; two brothers, John and James; three grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren.

Joseph Michael Martinez,
age 70, passed away in his
home on June 19, 2017.
He proudly served in the
U.S. Army in Germany for
two years. After leaving the
Army, he started work as a
hod carrier which eventually
evolved into very skilled brick
laying work which he continued for the next 30 plus years. He
had lived in Arvada for a short time then moved to Grand
Junction in 1972, and worked in many surrounding towns.
Handsome “Big Joe” made many great friends over the years.
He was an avid horseshoe player, enjoyed watching the Packers
win, LOVED going to auctions, and lived for loving on his
daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and spoiling his
dogs.
Joe is survived by daughter, Giovanna Martinez and
granddaughter, Gianna Martinez; daughter, Chantae Pennell;
granddaughter, McKale Pennell; grandson, Kaulan Pennell;
great-granddaughter, Oakley Pennell; great-grandson, Kannon
Pennell, and his brothers, John Martinez and James Martinez.
A Graveside Service will be held at the Veterans Memorial
Cemetery of Western Colorado, 2830 Riverside Pkwy., Grand
Junction, Colorado on July 24, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. with a
Celebration of Life to follow at Riverside Park, 675 W.
Colorado Ave., Grand Junction, Colorado from 1 - 5:00 p.m.
Joe will be dearly missed by all.
