Margie Nutter
August 4, 1952 - August 29, 2017
Margie Nutter, age 65,passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at her home in Montrose, Colorado.
Margie Jean Jones was born on August 4, 1952, in Durango, Colorado to parents, Lester and Norma (Olbert) Jones. The family moved from the old homestead in Thompson Park to Westcliffe to live with her grandparents.
They then moved to Buena Vista where her dad was employed
at the Department of Corrections. While there, her mom worked
in the summers cleaning cabins in St. Elmo. The kids spent
summers there causing mischief while their mom worked.
After Buena Vista, the family moved back to Durango for a
short time before settling in Delta. After graduating from Delta
High School, Margie attended Fort Lewis College on a Merit
Scholarship to pursue her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. She
graduated with honors and at the top of her class as a Certified
Public Accountant. Margie worked at Chadwick, Steinkirchner,
Davis & White Accounting Firm in Grand Junction until she
married Jack L. Nutter on June 4, 1977, in Eckert. Together they
moved to Montrose where they lived and worked on their farm.
To their union were born three daughters, Melanie, Danielle
and Suzanne. Margie was the CFO at Montrose Memorial
Hospital for several years and continued to work as a CPA after
leaving the hospital until her retirement.
Margie enjoyed spending time with her family especially at the
family cabin. Her time was never idle. When her girls were
young, she participated in all their school activities, sports, and
was a devoted girl scout leader for them. Margie loved
gardening, growing flowers and spending time outdoors. She
also enjoyed arts and crafts and would apply those talents to
decorating for every holiday, especially Christmas, where her
Christmas Village Houses would take over every room in the
house. Margie loved to collect her bears and decorate home,
cabin, and office with them. She loved her projects and
activities and pursued these with great attention to detail. She
was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt,
cousin and wonderful friend to many. She was richly loved and
will be greatly missed.
Margie is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jack Nutter;
daughters, Melanie Medina and husband, Rene, of Grand
Junction, Colorado; Danielle Recchia and fiance, Michael Tong,
of Montrose, Colorado; Suzanne Nutter and husband, Mitch
Joosten, of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, Mathew, Keoki,
