John Edward Gutierrez died
on July 14, 2017, at
Larchwood Inn, Grand
Junction, Colorado.
He was born on September
17, 1933, to Joe and Rosa
Gutierrez in Kobe, Colorado.
John spent his childhood in
Leadville, Colorado, and
graduated from St. Mary’s High School. He was discharged
from the U.S. Navy in 1952. He later married Maude Madrid
and spent the last 33 years living in Grand Junction. John
worked as a heavy equipment operator for the City of Leadville
and used to be involved in Leadville politics. He was a member
of Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He
loved his family, the outdoors, horseback riding, hunting and
fishing, reading, and flipping houses.
John is survived by wife, Maude Gutierrez, Grand Junction,
CO; son, Edward Gutierrez, Leadville, CO; daughters, Diana
Gutierrez, Springfield, OR; Lora and JoAnn Gutierrez, Grand
Junction; brothers, Robert, Grand Junction, and Felix, Denver;
sisters, Virginia Craig, Grand Junction, Theresa Gallegos,
Denver, and Della Salazar, Pueblo, CO.
A memorial mass will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on
Friday, July 21, at 2:30 p.m.

John Edward Gutierrez, 83, Grand Junction, died July 14,
2017, at Larchwood Inns.
Services will take place at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Callahan-Edfast
Mortuary.
He was a heavy equipment operator.
Survivors include his wife, Maude A.; one son, Edward of Leadville;
three daughters, Diana Gutierrez of Springfield, Oregon,
Lora Gutierrez and JoAnn Gutierrez, both of Grand Junction;
three sisters, Virginia Craig of Grand Junction, Theresa Gallegos
of Denver, and Della Salazar of Pueblo; two brothers, Robert of
Grand Junction and Felix of Denver; seven grandchildren; and
eight great-grandchildren.
