Carolyn Dean (Wadlow)
Renfrow passed away on July
19th, 2017, at AltaVita
Memory Care Centre in
Longmont, CO.
Carolyn was born in Grand
Junction, Colorado on May
14th, 1929, to J.T. “Jack” and
Mary (Eddy) Wadlow. She
lived on ranches in the
Kannah Creek and
Whitewater areas and
attended rural schools,
moving into a boarding house
to attend Grand Junction High
School, from which she
graduated in 1946. Always a
lover of music and dance,
Carolyn enjoyed singing,
making music on the
accordion, tap-dancing, and
playing piano with a dance
band.
She was married to Lloyd J. Davis from 1946 - 1951.
Daughters, Patricia Rae and Mary Kathryn were born in Grand
Junction in 1948. Carolyn was married to Glencoe M. Armour
from 1952 - 1979. Son, Jayson Glen was born in 1954. Full of
enthusiasm and energy, she was a leader in 4-H Club and other
community activities. She was a fast and avid reader,
seamstress, and knitter, when her responsibilities as a parent,
homemaker, and postal employee permitted. Carolyn was a very
supportive daughter, sister, mom, grandma, and friend!
In 1973 Carolyn became the Postmaster in Whitewater,
moving to Palisade to manage that Post Office in 1976, and
serving as Postmaster in Delta, CO from 1982 - 1988. She also
worked as a postal auditor, and trainer of clerks and
postmasters. Carolyn credited her parents’ example in passing
on an excellent work ethic, which helped her to excel in a maledominated
position. Near the end of her career, she traveled to
China with a group of Postmasters as a People-to-People
representative. She served on the Delta County Planning
Commission and Housing Authority, and volunteered at the
Delta Museum, RSVP, and Public Library.
Clyde Renfrow and Carolyn were married in February of
1988, and enjoyed attending family gatherings and local
sporting events, and traveling far and wide. They were active in
the Delta Presbyterian Church, and Meals on Wheels. Carolyn
was a valued volunteer with the Delta County Memorial
Hospital for a number of years after retirement, and served the
community as a member of Altrusa and PEO. Rediscovering her
love for music and dance in later years, she enjoyed attending
concerts, and line-dancing with a group of friends. She took
pleasure in the many activities at Crossroads ALC after her
move there in 2013. With a courageous, determined, and
optimistic nature, Carolyn was devoted and generous to family
and friends alike. She will be greatly missed.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; daughter,
Patricia Davis; son, Jayson Armour; brother, William Wadlow;
husband, Clyde Renfrow, and daughter-in-law, Carol Renfrow.
She is survived by her sister, Alta Wadlow; daughter, Mary
“Kay” (Robert) Daugherty; grandsons, Daniel Daugherty of
Longmont, CO and Benjamin (Jolie) Daugherty of Sayreville,
New Jersey, and by sons, Jim Renfrow of Montrose, CO; Les
(Ann) Renfrow of Delta, CO, and grandsons, John (Sarah),
Adam (Mary Beth), Brian, Chris (Courtney), and Daniel
Renfrow; seven great-grandchildren, and nephews, Marty, Ted,
and Lance Wadlow.
A celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held 10:00 a.m.,
Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Delta Presbyterian Church in Delta,
CO with Rev. Bill Forbes officiating.
Condolences may be sent to Taylor Funeral Services in Delta,

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to
Delta Presbyterian Church, the DCMH Volunteers, or
