TWO CHILDREN MEET DEATH UNDER TRUCK.

A former Gypsum man figured in ( a truck-sled accident, which cost the lives of two boys at Kokomo, near Climax, Jan. 11. The dead are Jack Hawkins, 9, - and Andrew Cortez, 7, both of Ko- j komo. The tragedy happend last j Thursday afternoon, when an ore truck from the Climax dam, driven ! by Amos Gordon, rounded a blind ' curve at the Kokomo postoffice. At ' that instant the sled, bearing the two boys, shot out onto the highway from a side hill, sliding under the truck. The rear dual wheels of the truck ran over the sled and two youngsters. Jack Hawkins was killed almost instantly, whUe Andrew Cortez died three hours later at St. Vincent’s hospital in Leadville. j Highway Patrolman, Harry Ca-' ble, who investigated the accident stated Saturday that the tragedy was unavoidable, that because of the blind curve, Mr. Gordon had no warning that the boys were near. He further stated that the highway was so slick, that Mrl Gordon could not have stopped soon enough to avoid hitting the sled, had he been able to see it. V I Mrs. Lenna Bonar of Gypsum creek canon, spent a few days this week visiting her sister, Mrs. W. M Wilson in Eagle.
