Dr. Randall buried in Eagle

A man who figured prominently ip many phases of Eagle County’s development passed away in the Grand Junction Veteran’s Hospital March 10 at the age of S 3 years Dr O. W. AlienOloff Wellington Randall wan born in Waterloo, Province of Canada, June ~21p k 1876- He »peut hi* childhood. 1%., Canada, New Hampshire-.aiyl Michigan and graduated from the Dental College at Michigan University, Ann Arbor. He served In the Spanish/ American War and before his honorable discharge was cited for ills wont with the sick and wounded of lus division. During World War I he entered the Citizen's Training Camp at Ft- Douglas, Utah. Because he was over the age limit he was rejected for service in the Armed Forces but he organized military training groups in this county and taught French to young men about to enter service. During the second World War he served his country as a member of the local Selective Service Board. Dr. Randall came west in 1902 and practiced dentistry In Denver before coming to Eagle County in 1904. The rest of his life was devoted to his profession which he practiced in all towns of the Eagle River Valley and In the Colorado River District; and to furthering development of the valley', in one way or anotherOn Nov. 2-8, 1910 the Doctor and the former Irene Willlts of Fasa'.t were married In Denver. Mrs. Randall shared his varied interests and aided him in many. In. 1930 the Randall home was completed with the adoption of two little girls, Shirley and Paula. , i; During his early professional career the Doctor prompted introduction of pressure anesthesia to his profession and secured its. adoption as a standard operation. Years later, when he took postgraduate work at Northwestern University in Chicago, he was instrumental in having established a Foundation Fund for Original Research Work in that university’s dental department. While Dr. Randall was actively interested in industrial and economic development, in education and young people probably he gained most far-reaching fame through the annual Pilgrimages to the Mount of the Holy Cross. These he organized and successfully' conducted for several summers, enlisting the cooperation of The Denver Post and the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad Co- in promoting and carrying on the Pilgrimages which drew people frpm many corners of the nation. He established the Dr. Randall Award, which kept alive an annual county speech contest in the public schools. Any young person showing promise in carving a career for himself, had the backing and help of the Doctor. His was a well-rounded, long and useful life. Ragle County is indebted to Dr. Randall for the many things he did —and many ihe attempted to do, but failed. Failures were not because he.didn’t try. Ho is survived by his wife, Irene of Eagle; and his two adopted daughters Mrs Kenneth (Shirley) Olsen of Covina, Calif.; Mrs George (Paula) Jones of Drexel, Mo. and seven grandchildren.
