Barbara Louise Smith, 87, Grand Junction, died May 24, 2017, at her home.Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. June 1 at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the mortuary. Survivors include four sons, Gary Williams of Parker, Tom Smith of Aztec, New Mexico, Rick Smith of Grand Junction, and Delbert Smith Jr. of Loma; one daughter, Lisa Jordheim of Grand Junction; four brothers, Lavern Schafer and Dean Schafer, both of Sun City, Arizona, Richard Schafer of Grand Junction and Larry Schafer of Clifton; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Barbara L. Smith, 87, of
Grand Junction died at her
home May 24, 2017.
She was born June 30, 1929,
to Alexander and Clara
Schafer, spending her
childhood in DeBeque and her
adult life in the Grand
Junction area.
Barbara was married to
Delbert Smith on July 28,
1961. She and Delbert owned Cottonwood Ridge Wildlife Zoo
and raised exotic animals for many years. She was also a
member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and served as a
church officer for over 25 years. She and Delbert raised foster
children for many years and enjoyed spending time with her
family including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by Delbert Smith, her husband.
Surviving members of her family include Gary (Susan)
Williams of Parker, Colorado; Rick (Sally) Smith of Grand
Junction, Colorado; Delbert, Jr. (Eva) Smith of Loma,
Colorado; Lisa (Kevin) Jordheim of Grand Junction, Colorado,
and Tom (Karen) Smith of Aztec, NM. Also surviving are
brothers, LaVern (Marie) Schafer and Dean (Dorothy) Schafer
from Arizona, and Richard (Mary) Schafer and Larry (Karen)
Schafer from Grand Junction. She had four grandchildren, Tim,
Jeff, Nicole, and Tracy; and ten great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, June 1, at
11:00 a.m. with visitation from 9:30 -11:00 a.m. Burial will be
at Memorial Gardens Cemetery immediately after.

memory of Barbara L. Smith.
