peacefully on Tuesday,
August 29, 2017, at Paonia
Care and Rehabilitation
Center. She was 91 years old.
A viewing will be held
Friday, September 8, 2017,
from 6 - 7:00 p.m. at Taylor
Funeral Service Chapel in
Paonia, Colorado. Funeral
services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 9, 2017, at
Paonia United Methodist Church in Paonia, Colorado. Interment
will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Paonia, Colorado.
Mary was born March 12, 1926, in Royalton, Pennsylvania to
Irene and Raymond T. Burger. She was one of eight children.
After leaving school, she worked at Pomeroys Department
Store in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for several years.
In 1945, she met her future husband, Edward Pete Sunich Sr.,
when he was sent to Carlisle Barracks in Carlisle, Pennsylvania
after being wounded in battle in WWII. The couple wed on
October 3, 1945, and settled in York Haven, PA where they
enjoyed many years of fellowship at the Methodist Church. Her
faith and family were an integral part of who she was. Mary
became a dedicated homemaker and remained so her entire life.
The couple welcomed their only son, Edward Jr, on February
14, 1949.
In 1993, they moved to Paonia, Colorado and shared 64 years
together until her husband’s death March 30, 2010.
Mary is survived by her son, Edward Pete Sunich Jr., of
Paonia, CO; grandson, Edward Pete Sunich III (Cindy) of Rock
Springs, Wyoming; great-granddaughter, Marin Mae Sunich of
Rock Springs, WY; brothers, Joseph Burger of Lewisberry, PA;
Ronald Burger of Stelton, PA, and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband and sisters,
Geraldine Louck, Ann Setrow, and Nancy Hannah and brothers,
Ted Burger and this year, Harold Burger.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor
Funeral Service and Crematory.
