Montie Slaughter
March 8, 1934 - August 9, 2017
With great sadness, we share that Montie George Slaughter entered into eternal peace on August 9, 2017. Montie was born on March 8, 1934, to Oscar and Fredricka Slaughter in Bremerton, Washington. He spent his childhood in Arizona and his teen years happily cowboying on his extended families ranch near Kingman, Arizona. In 1952 he met the love of his life, LeEtta Lavern Rowland, in Flagstaff, Arizona and they were married on March 28, 1953. Montie entered the Air Force and served in Fairbanks, Alaska during the Korean War as an Aircraft Fueler. Montie and LeEtta were happy and proud to have and raise six children, living the majority of that time in Las Vegas, Nevada where Montie worked in both the heating and air conditioning business and as a foreman in the plumbing business. In 1975 Montie and family relocated to Gateway, Colorado where he became a foreman in the local uranium mines. He happily became involved in the towns politics and EMS Services. Montie and LeEtta moved to Grand Junction in 1984, where he became an instructor of the Refrigeration Program at ITT. A year later they moved between Cedaredge and Crawford working with his sons in the HVAC business. In 1996 Montie and LeEtta started RVing full time and decided to settle in Cottonwood, Arizona where they remained until rejoining their family in Grand Junction in 2013. Montie is preceded in death by his father, Oscar Slaughter; his mother, Fredricka Slaughter; brother, Cecil Slaughter, and brother, Butch Slaughter, and is survived by his wife, LeEtta Slaughter; sister, Margie Howell of Maricopa, Arizona; children, Kathy Slaughter-Coma, Diane Hughes, Skip Slaughter, Bill Slaughter, Jerri Voelkl, and Laura Head; 17 grandchildren whom he proudly and happily contributed to the population of Gateway, and 43 great- grandchildren with the 44th due in weeks and the 45th due on Montie’s birthday March 8, 2018. Montie entered into peaceful rest surrounded by his adoring and loving family, knowing that his was a life fulfilled and well lived through the blessed plan of his Heavenly Father. A Celebration of Life will be held on September 14th at Martin Mortuary in Grand Junction at 3:00 p.m.
