September 6, 1924 - September 9, 2017
Jeanne W. Covey, age 93 years, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Mantey Heights Care Center in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Mrs. Covey was born in Dallas, Texas, on September 6, 1924, to the late Guy R. Woodard and Margaret Lewis Woodard. She spent her childhood between Texas and California and graduated from
Tolar High School in Tolar, Texas, and earned a degree in
business from the Dallas Metropolitan Business School.
On April 30, 1944, she married her beloved husband, William
T. Covey, in San Marcos, Texas. Throughout their life together,
they lived in Texas, Utah, Idaho, New Mexico, Wyoming, and
in 1957, settled in Grand Junction, Colorado. She was a charter
member of Bookcliff Baptist Church where she devoted her
gifts and talents in a variety of volunteer positions. She retired
as a receptionist from Grand Valley Rural Power after 20 years
of service.
Jeanne was very proud of her Texas heritage and enjoyed
sharing her love of southern cooking, sewing, reading, traveling
and gardening. She was an avid Dallas Cowboy and Denver
Bronco fan.
Momma was a sweet southern lady whose heart overflowed
with grace and generosity. Her faith was an inspiration to her
family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith and integrity.
Mrs. Covey was preceded in death by her parents; beloved
husband of 65 years, William T. Covey; sister, Peggy W.
Sprinkle; and brother, Guy R. Woodard. Survivors include
daughters, Karen (the late Jack) Hunt of Grand Junction and
Candy (Rick) Brodel of Grand Junction; granddaughters, Jenny
(Steve) Day and Stacey (Brad) Cummins, and greatgrandchildren, Tyler and Ryan Day, Bailee and Cloey Campbell, and Cole Cummins.
At Jeanne’s request, a graveside service will be held for the
family where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband
at Orchard Mesa Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the nurses and CNA’s at
Mantey Heights and HopeWest for their loving care for our dear
Momma.
