Former Grand Junction resident Shirley Marie Knight Petrafeso,
90, Colorado Springs, died Sept. 10, 2017, at The Center at
Cordera in Colorado Springs.
Visitation will be at 5 p.m. today at Callahan Edfast Mortuary.
Rosay will be said at 6 p.m. at the mortuary. Mass will take place at
10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Diana Lynn Heyne, Luana
Marie Kennedy, and Valeria Jean Petrafeso; seven grandchildren;
seven great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.

was born on November 27,
1926, in Grand Junction, CO.
Shirley married Louis Paul
Petrafeso on October 19,
1947.
Shirley spent 1943 - 1944 working for Ryan Aeronautical.
There she made manifolds for B29’s in San Diego, CA. She
spent some time working at Kuner Empson, preforming quality
control for six years. She also helped pick and pack peaches and
cherries.
Shirley was an active member in many clubs. She spent more
than 20 years in the Altar Society, was a member of the Elks
Ladies for 48 years as of 2011, was in St. Mary’s circle for ten
years, and was a member of Catholic Daughters for 54 years as
of 2011. She also volunteered at the VA Hospital often.
Shirley had many hobbies; sewing, crocheting, quilt making,
bowling (30 years), and playing cards were just a few. She
enjoyed traveling, going on four cruises: twice to Acapulco,
Alaska, and the Panama Canal.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband in 2008; mother,
Nettie Stolze Knight; father, Harry Knight; brothers, Leland
Carol Knight, Charles Henry "Chuck" Knight, William Knight,
and Wendel Knight. She is survived by daughters, Diana Lynn
(John) Heyne, Luana Marie (James) Kennedy, and Valeria Jean
(Irv Crosby) Petrafeso; grandchildren, Lori Ann Heyne, Jeffery
John (Glena) Heyne, Cynthia Berninzoni, Sarah Lynn (Jennifer)
Kennedy, David Brian (Naomi) Kennedy, Margaret Jean
Kennedy, and Joseph Anthony Petrafeso; great-grandchildren,
Chris Dirgo, Danny Dirgo, Diana Dirgo-Phillips, John W.
Heyne, Amelia Ann, Scarlet Estelle Harper Rose, and Jacob
Lewis Kennedy; three great-great-grandchildren, as well as
multiple nieces and nephews.
On Thursday, September 14, at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary
there will be a visitation from 5 - 7:00 p.m., with a rosary
starting at 6:00. A funeral mass will take place at St. Joseph’s
Catholic Church on Friday, September 15, at 10:00 a.m., with
graveside services to follow at Orchard Mesa Cemetery.
