Two Young Men From Gypsum Killed in Auto Accident Saturday

MORRIS REYNOLDS AND HIRAM EATON LOSE LIVES WHEN CAR GOES INTO SWEETWATER.

Two young Gypsum men were killed around midnight Saturday when their car plunged over a steep embankment on Sweetwater creek, on the high hill just a short distance above the mouth of the creek. Hiram Eaton and Morris Reynolds were on their return from a dance in that neighborhood, when their car left the narrow road, plunging over a 100 foot bank, and landed in Sweetwater creek. The accident is thought to have occured around midnight altho the bodies were not discovered until Sunday afternoon. Discovery was made by Gene Godat of the Lucky G J ranch, when he noticed parts of the car near the road. Investigation by Mr. Godat led to the discovery of

the car at the foot of the ravine, partially submerged in water. Whether death was due to drowning or to injuries were not known the first of the week. Both young men were 21 years old, and were World War II veterans, belonging to American Legion Post No. 150 at Gypsum. Young Eaton was the son of J. A. Eaton, prominent Gypsum valley rancher and has been working on the Big Ranch with his father and brother, Wren. Morris Reynolds is the son of Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Reynolds, former Edwards people and has been making his home with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Gerard in Gypsum valley. A double, funeral service was held in the Legion hall in Gypsum Wednesday afternoon by Department commander Paul A. Shield, under the direction of American Legion Post 150, where both young men held memberships, when a large number of friends gathered for the last farewell.
